Metka Lokar is a teacher of Slovene at the School of European languages and cultures BFSU.
She graduated in Slovenian Language and Literature and History of Art in 1997 from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and received her master's degree in contemporary Slovenian literature in 2006, from the same university. From 1998 to 2008 she worked as an editor and publishing programme coordinator at the Centre for Slovene as a Second and Foreign Language, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, and from 2009 to 2013 as a researcher at the Slovenian Migration Institute, Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts. Since then she is employed by the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana as a teacher of Slovenian language abroad and works as a foreign expert at the School of European Languages and Cultures, Beijing Foreign Studies University. She also has years of experiences working in media.
Her fields of work and research activities are Slovene as a second and foreign language, literary and art history, culture and cultural history, intercultural relations, as well as ethnic and migration studies. Her latest study focuses on chinoiserie in Slovenia as an integral part of the European aristocratic lifestyle. She has received Grand Prize of the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, for achievements in her field of work in 2007, and International Pretnar Award with the honorary title »Ambassador of Slovenian language, literature, and culture in China« in 2019.
